SpeedoMe

Simple Speedometer for iPhone

One number, big and blue: how fast you are going right now. In km/h or mph, on your iPhone and on the CarPlay Dashboard of your car. That is the whole app. We checked, there is nothing else hiding in there.

What it does

You tap Start, SpeedoMe reads your GPS speed and shows it in huge digits. The same number goes into a Live Activity, so it also sits on the Lock Screen, in the Dynamic Island and on the CarPlay Dashboard (iOS 26 or later, in cars whose CarPlay shows Live Activities there). No CarPlay app to open, nothing to set up in the car.

The speed is the raw one from GPS. No smoothing, no calibration, no flattery. If you are doing 53, it says 53, not 50 because that sounds nicer.

It waits for you

SpeedoMe never starts measuring on its own. It opens, looks at you and waits for the Start button. After that it keeps working with the screen off and while you use other apps, so your speed stays where you want it. Tap Stop and it goes back to waiting.

Normal and Forced: the part with the small print

iOS has a rule: a Live Activity may refresh once per second for a few minutes, and then the system gets bored and slows it down to roughly once every 15 seconds. At 100 km/h that is a long time to be wrong about your own speed.

Switch between the two with the button next to Start. Switching to Forced restarts the Live Activity right away, no waiting.

The red button

Top-left corner, a little red circle with a cross. Yes, the one from macOS. It stops measuring, removes the Live Activity from the Lock Screen and the CarPlay Dashboard, and quits the app completely. Not “minimizes”, not “sends to the background”. Gone, out of memory, like it was never there. Swiping an app away on iOS never felt this satisfying.

km/h or mph

The first launch picks the unit from your region. Not happy with it? Tap the unit under the digits and it flips, in the app and in the Live Activity. SpeedoMe remembers your choice. It is the only thing it remembers.

Two shades of blue

Bright blue means the speed came straight from your device. A darker blue means the device did not give any speed, so SpeedoMe worked it out from your last two positions. If you see a dash instead of digits, GPS has not found you yet. Give it a clear view of the sky and a minute.

Privacy, shortly

No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, no internet traffic. Your location is used in memory to calculate the speed and then forgotten. Nothing is saved on your iPhone except km/h or mph. The full policy is longer, but not by much.

A small serious note

GPS speed is for information. Your car’s own speedometer is the reference. Set everything up before you drive, then keep your eyes on the road, not on the phone. The CarPlay Dashboard is there so that you do not have to look at the phone anyway.
